In Spring 2023, the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE) College of Health Sciences Admissions Department, School of Occupational Therapy (ACHE OT), and School of Physical Therapy (ACHE PT) collaborated to establish the ACHE Mentoring and Achievement Preparation (M.A.P.) Program. Building on this foundation, the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM) expanded the initiative in 2025 to include students pursuing careers in osteopathic medicine.
The ACHE M.A.P. Program aims to educate, encourage, equip, and engage diverse students from underrepresented and underserved populations who are considering careers in occupational therapy, physical therapy, or osteopathic medicine. Through this initiative, ACHE seeks to positively impact underserved communities and help reduce healthcare disparities.
ACHE M.A.P. welcomed its inaugural cohort in June 2023 and continues to grow and thrive across all programs. Of the 2024 cohort, 40% matriculated into ACHE programs.
Following the on-campus immersive experience—three days for ACHE OT and PT participants and a four-day experience for ARCOM participants—students receive ongoing mentorship from program faculty members and currently enrolled students within their respective programs. Participants also receive regular invitations from ACHE and ARCOM Admissions to participate in future admissions-related workshops and events designed to enhance their knowledge, support personal and professional development, and strengthen future applications to ACHE OT, PT, and ARCOM programs.
