
William Ohm
William Ohm served over 28 years at the Fort Smith Police Department and retired at the rank of Corporal in June 2017. He spent 8 years working as a patrolman and then 2 years as a Vice/Narcotics Detective before being selected to the Community Oriented Policing Unit where he served as a bike officer for almost 8 years. The remainder of his career was spent working within the Administrative Service Division. His primary function was conducting background investigations on sworn and non-sworn applicants. He would also assist with recruiting and hiring, as well as instructing various police academy classes and departmental in-service trainings. In 1999, Corporal Ohm received the Judge Paul E. Wolfe Outstanding Young Officer Award. At the time of his retirement, Cpl. Ohm was a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor, Taser Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Use of Force Instructor and a Glock and Rock River Armorer. Cpl. Ohm was also a member of the Crisis Response Team (Hostage Negotiators) for 20 years, the last 9 of which he was responsible for running the team.
