FORT SMITH, AR – The Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM) hosted its annual St. Baldrick’s Winter Carnival, a fun and exciting event dedicated to raising funds for childhood cancer research.

Organized by the ARCOM Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) since 2018, the annual event encourages participants to shave their heads or raise money in other ways for children battling cancer. Chair of Anatomy, Dr. Joanne Peterson, had 18-inches trimmed during the St. Baldrick’s celebration. Even those unable to attend were encouraged to contribute, ensuring that every child has a chance at a long, healthy life.

This year’s goal was $5,000, but ARCOM SOMA surpassed expectations by raising $6,482 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The money will help advance research to find cures and improve treatments for young cancer patients.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer and donor-powered charity that has invested more than $354 million in childhood cancer research grants worldwide. It is the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants.
