Director of Mental Wellness

The Director of Mental Wellness will be responsible for focusing on student success through development, implementation, and the monitoring of student wellness programming including coping skills, and activities such as student organizations and ACHE Student Academies.   Additionally, the Director of Mental Wellness will have Clinic responsibilities similar to Clinical faculty.   Duties will also include activities of a faculty member such as teaching, research and service within the school and community.


  • Focus on student success through development & implementation of the student wellness programming, including wellness initiatives and activities
  • Responsible for in house counseling for mental wellness for students and providing referrals if a student needs more concentrated mental health services through a clinic.
  • Provide direct student interventions for medical students dealing with cognitive, social, interpersonal communication skills or emotional behaviors which interfere with their success
  • Provide guidance and leadership for Student Academies and student organizations to encourage student wellness activities and monitor effectiveness.
  • Responsible for team teaching some contents in Fundamentals of Health Care courses throughout the pre-clinical medical education curriculum
  • Clinic responsibilities similar to other Clinical faculty
  • Functions as a faculty member which includes teaching, research and service within the school and community
  • Assist in the development of students toward increased personal functioning and feelings to develop skills needed to act as an empathetic and humanistic osteopathic physician
  • Assist in the implementation of required accommodations granted under the ADA
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters in Clinical Psychology
  • Experience in education or social work
  • Experience working with student resident physicians
  • Must have a passion for teaching and working with students
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbally
  • Ability to express empathy while maintaining professional ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • D or Psy. D in Clinical Psychology
  • One to Three years graduate level teaching experience
  • Prior work in clinic environment

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office.
  • Display professionalism for the college in all communication and interaction.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.
  • High-energy, versatile, self-directed.
