Joanne Peterson is an Associate Professor of Anatomy and serves as Chair of the Anatomy Department. She works closely with the DO and MSB students to develop their knowledge in the Anatomical sciences, which include gross anatomy, embryology, histology and neuroanatomy. The anatomical sciences are foundational to understanding how the human body functions normally and is vital to educating competent healthcare professionals. To help facilitate learning, her research is focused on looking at various approaches to boost academic achievement in both the Anatomical Sciences and throughout the entire medical school curriculum. She also maintains memberships in AAA, AACA, and IAMSE to stay up-to-date with current pedagogical practices within the field of anatomy and medical education.

PhD in Cell Biology from University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center; MS (with honors) in Biology from University of Central Oklahoma; BSEd in Science Education and BA in Visual arts and Photography from University of Central Oklahoma
